Beware
Betsy Holleman Burke
napalm falls all around us Joanne warns
why napalm old outdated poison
why not new toxins or death at the gym or demise
after a clean bill of health just last week
you danced to Fats Domino’s piano at Prom
today you wait in a wheelchair for family who
forget to come why not speak truth and say
we all die no respite from funerals every week
happy people in planes fell from the sky yesterday
or was it last month or into the frozen Potomac
on my fourteenth wedding anniversary to a man
whose laugh I can no longer remember.
